My first venture into design work was through illustration.

I have always loved sketching, doodling and drawing.

As technology progressed and I learned more about available drawing tools, I began using the computer more and more to create images.

This naturally progressed into graphic and web design, but thankfully I still get to indulge in a little creative illustration and character design from time to time.

Of the images shown here, the top two are worksheets designed for a KS2 health and safety course, which would be taken before the children embark on their work placements. The brief stated that the sheets should be visually engaging for the target age group and clearly show a set list of hazards. I created these images entirely in Adobe Illustrator.

The rest of the illustrations shown here are to be used in a line of canvas prints for children's bedrooms or nurseries. The brief for this project was that the images be interesting and exciting for children, there should be a version for girls and boys of each, and that there be space for personalising the print with a name. The style and image choices were all left to me, as the client had no idea what would sell well, so I experimented with 3 very different styles.
